about the authors
Patrick Hughes

Dr Patrick Hughes lectures in Communication Studies at Deakin University and previously taught at the Open University and London University. His research interest is the industrialisation and commodification of communication. He has published books and articles in this area in Australia and the USA and he has acted as a consultant on communications policy to government and non-government organisations in Australia and the UK. His current research into how science centres represent science focuses on the implications of their continuing commercialisation and draws parallels with the toy industry, which is another of his research interests.
